Here you'll find answers to the the most frequently asked questions we recieve. If your question isn't covered, email us at: Community.OpenMinds@gmail.com and we'll get you an answer.

Since Open Minds is a secular group, is it anti-religious?

We are secular, meaning that we do not belong to or affiliate with any religious organization or belief. We welcome all religious and non-religious families to join our open-minded community. We are not anti-religion; we encourage acceptance of everyone’s differences in belief or lack of belief.

Are you LGBTQ inclusive?

Yes. We know that love is love and that a person’s gender can be different from what’s on their birth certificate. If you see ways we can change language or actions to further our commitment to inclusivity, please let us know.

Are there any tuition discounts for multiple siblings?

Unfortunately, no. Instructors are paid individually by parents for tuition; tuition is not collected per family. Our class prices are very reasonable for the quality of instruction.

May I visit the campus to observe classes?

Yes, but please schedule the visit ahead of time so we can set up an observational plan to meet your needs. To do this, click on the Contact page.

How do I register my child for classes?

Click this link to fill out our registration form. Registration is $40/student per term and is paid directly to Snellville Performing Arts. Once you are registered, details for making this payment will be emailed to you.

Will I be required to volunteer?

Yes. Each family will be required to provide a parent/guardian helper for the hours your child attends classes. 3 dates of the 8 dates of class will fulfill your duties. If you have multiple students attending the same hours, you will still only be required to volunteer on 3 dates. It will not double or triple! If you have circumstances (younger children, etc.) that make it challenging for you to volunteer, let us know at or before registration -- we can work with you.

Will my child get the class they register for?

We strive to get your child in the class requested; however, some classes may fill as they are on a first come first served basis. If your child does not get into the class, we will place them on a waiting list and keep you informed of placement. If no space becomes available, your registration fee will be refunded.

May I enroll a child with special needs?

Please contact us to discuss your child’s specific needs. We understand that children’s academic abilities vary widely in any given grade level, and if your child is working significantly below or above their grade, they will probably do wonderfully in our program. However, we are not equipped to work with special situations involving behavior; all students must be able to adhere to our code of conduct policy.

What do we do in the case of inclement weather?

We follow Gwinnett County School Systems decisions, so please reference local news if weather is in question.

Can my teen drive on campus?

Yes. We ask that they be reminded to drive very slowly in the parking lot as we have multiple class changes and people will routinely be in the parking lot going to and from the building for drop off and pick up.

What day are classes held?

All classes are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Is my child required to take a full day of classes?

Short answer: “No.” We offer an “a la carte” class schedule. You may block your day how best suits the needs and interests of your child. For children in 6-12th grade, we will offer a monitored study hall (registration and payment required) for any gaps where your child may not be taking a class but desires to remain on campus for a later class or if your day requires the child to remain on campus longer due to your own personal schedule. We find this provides more flexibility to better meet the needs of our growing community. Campus closes at 1:30pm.

Are there scholarships available?

Scholarships have been claimed for this term.

What is the refund policy?

Tuition fees paid to the teacher are refundable until two weeks before the session starts. No refunds are given within two weeks of the session start date.
