American Sign Langauage with Sandy

4th+, Adults welcome

I am excited to share my native language with you! ASL 1A will cover approximately the first 1/3 of ASL 1. We will learn practical conversational ASL with not only vocabulary but also sentences utilizing proper ASL syntax and grammar, classifiers, facial expressions, body movement, and of course, some Deaf culture. My lessons can immediately be applied in real life after just one class. Many students leave their first class smiling and introduce me to their parents and friends using ASL that they just learned.

We will cover an impressive amount of material in very little time by "flipping" our classes to make the most of our time together. I will share each week’s materials in our private Google Classroom* prior to the actual class so students can begin to familiarize themselves and prepare any questions. This lets us use the class time to practice and apply new skills and knowledge in an immersive and interactive setting. Included is a great little video which helps illustrate the flipped classroom model.

No prior knowledge is required for this class, but I do strongly recommend learning the manual alphabet at home and using class time for maximum practice. Here are several excellent tools just for this:

Please Note: Students will need internet access for Google Classroom and other online materials.

To reserve your student's spot, you must pay at least $36 to cover supply fees and partial tuition. Tuition must be paid in full by the first day of class.

Click the button to pay Sandy directly. You can pay for multiple children at the same time. Just add up the total and be sure to include the your child's name, grade, and the name of the class in the note.
